Hi! This is me, Julia Lienard, behind KUI ceramics. I am a biologist and bioinformatician by training, but I have always enjoyed crafting things by hand β often functional ones.
I started ceramics at the end of 2022 when I took my first pottery class in MalmΓΆ, Sweden. After a few lessons, I knew I wanted to spend more time working with clay, so I bought a small pottery wheel. Soon after, I set up a home studio with a kiln, where I can experiment freely and create pieces that I occasionally make available here for others to enjoy.
Each piece is made in the moment, shaped by intuition, a love of experimentation, and the creative process itself. Guided by visual instinct, I like to play with contrasts β mixing materials, combining smooth and textured surfaces, and working with asymmetrical details β shaping each piece to evoke a feeling of softness, calm, and balance. Every object brings together beauty and everyday function, while remaining entirely individual.
I do not work in collections or repeated series. Each object is produced in small numbers and naturally carries its own subtle differences in texture and form. Some designs are made only once, while others may come back for a little while before disappearing again.
What you find here is a landscape of singular pieces, continuously evolving as new ideas emerge.
